UKG, the global leader in workforce management and HR solutions, identified three megatrends that will redefine the workplace by 2025.
These trends provide insight into the future work of businesses, helping them to overcome challenges such as labour shortages, employee satisfaction, and the integration technology into daily operations.
1. Reimagining talent recruitment
Talent shortages due to demographic changes, skills gaps and changing employee expectations could leave up to 85,2 million unfilled jobs in the world by 2030. Businesses should focus on skills-based hiring to address this problem, and not traditional experience. In order to bridge the skills gap, businesses will need to invest in upskilling current employees and tapping into underutilized talent pools.
2. Unleashing Engagement
In a labour market that is becoming increasingly competitive, the employee experience will play a major role in retaining top talent. Businesses must create a culture that encourages trust, recognition and personal growth, as more than half of their workforce (53%) are considering new job opportunities. Leaders should move beyond traditional engagement surveys and embrace continuous feedback loops in order to better understand team needs. Flexible work arrangements and personalised employee benefits will be crucial to businesses in order to drive inclusion, empowerment and innovation.
3. Unlocking productivity
Successful businesses will integrate AI into their daily operations in order to improve, and not replace, the human decision-making process. In 2018, companies will need to go beyond just implementing AI, and create a collaborative work environment that encourages employees to feel supported by the technology. The use of AI in a transparent and ethical manner, combined with human intuition will be the key to developing an approach that is people-centric and drives productivity and collaboration.
The future of work
Neil Pickering Senior Manager HR Innovation, UKG, commented on the Megatrends: “The workplace of 2025 will require not only agility, but a radical new way to approach workforce challenges.” The global skills gap and 39% of UK workers are considering changing jobs, so organisations need to prioritize both upgrading their teams’ skills and adapting to the shifting expectations of employees.
“AI will transform the world, but we must continue to focus on solutions that are human-centric. The technology should enhance people’s capabilities, not replace them. This will create a culture of trust, inclusion and engagement. Companies that successfully integrate AI and invest in skills-based recruitment, reskilling and employee well-being will not only overcome the labour shortage but also create workplaces which attract and retain top talent. “Investing in people is the future for organisations.”
