Jack Dorsey’s Layoff announcement teaches us the importance of honesty.

The C-suite will often keep information secret when a company is in trouble. They only share updates with those who need to know. When this happens, people will make up stories to fill in the information vacuum. This is never a good thing.

Although I am never happy to see layoffs take place, Jack Dorsey’s email to Block (the fintech company he founded under the name Square) announcing that 931 employees, or approximately 8 percent, would be laid off, shows a level of honesty for which all businesses should strive.

The email obtained by TechCrunch explains the why and what of the layoffs. He cites three reasons for the layoffs (in original text, all lowercase letters are used):
