Niall Mackenzie has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer of Acas, with effect from 1 May 2025.
Mackenzie is currently the UK’s Trade Commissioner for North America. She works at the British Consulate in New York.
Mackenzie stated: “I am thrilled to join an organisation with so many talented individuals promoting good workplace practices and helping resolve some Britain’s most challenging workplace disputes.
“Acas specialists play a crucial role in conflict prevention and resolution. Estimated cost of workplace conflict in the UK is PS30bn per year. Acas’ contribution to Britain’s economic growth can be enhanced by further reducing this cost.
Clare Chapman said, “I am absolutely delighted to welcome Niall the CEO. Niall is a highly experienced and knowledgeable leader who has a proven track record of delivering excellent customer service and growing the UK economy.
We all look forward working with him to further enhance our reputation as Britain’s leading authority in employment relations.
“Acas has one of the strongest annual results it’s ever had and will play an important role in supporting government plans to ‘Make Work Pay.’ Niall’s leadership is sure to help us meet the increased demand for our services as we continue to innovate and deliver our core services.
Mackenzie served as interim director general of domestic and international exports and markets before he became trade commissioner. Prior to that, Mackenzie was the director for consumer and competitive policy at the Department for Business and Trade, and the interim director general for market frameworks at Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.
Mackenzie succeeds Dan Ellis who was Acas interim CEO since August 2024 when Susan Clews resigned.
