B&Q raises hourly pay rate to PS12.71

B&Q will increase the minimum wage by 4.1%, to PS12.71 an hour. This is 50p higher than the National Living Minimum The PS12.71 rate per hour is the highest national base rate of any major UK retailer

B&Q is the largest home improvement and garden retailer in the UK. It has announced that it will increase its UK hourly minimum rate to PS12.71 and its London rate up to PS14.05.

From April 2025, more than 15,000 B&Q employees will receive an additional 50p per hour. This is equivalent to over PS955.50 extra a year. The increase is paid in full on 1 st of April, and not spread out over the year.

The new rates are the highest among all major UK retailers. The minimum rate is 11p an hour higher than the Real Living Rate (PS12.60) and well above the UK Government’s 2025 National Minimum Wage.

B&Q, as a multigenerational company, believes that everyone should be paid the same regardless of their age. B&Q pays the same hourly minimum rate to all employees over 18 years of age. Apprentices receive the same salary as their colleagues who perform the same job.
