RedArc has reported that as the 8 March 2025 International Women’s Day nears, women will likely use support for their mental and emotional health for a longer period than men. Its data shows that this is equivalent to an average four-month period for women, and three-month period for men.
RedArc is convinced that this dispels the myth of women not prioritising their mental health. This also shows they are aware that maintaining a stable and sound mental health can be a challenge, especially when they have multiple responsibilities. They will seek help if necessary.
Christine Husbands is the commercial director at RedArc. She said: Women are more likely to’soldier’ on than to seek professional help. It is encouraging to see women open up and accept this kind of support. This can be extremely beneficial in times of stress or pressure.
RedArc has found that, while there are many positives in this data, women often present with greater emotional distress, anxiety, or depression. RedArc believes that this is due to the fact that many women feel the need for continuous support until they are at their breaking point. This may be due to the more complex needs that women have. They also require more intensive and long-term support.
Women who sought help from RedArc’s mental health specialists showed good recovery rates, as assessed by a Patient Health Questionnaire and Generalised Anxiety Disorder. Both tools are used by professionals to evaluate the mental distress of their patients.
RedArc data shows that women are more likely than men to benefit from holistic therapies, like meditation and yoga. This could lead to better outcomes in the long run and the ability to help themselves should symptoms return.
Christine Husbands concluded Women have always felt a need to be well-present for themselves, colleagues, and their families but we are pleased to report that they’re open to seeking professional help. We should use International Women’s Day to discuss the importance of women’s mental wellbeing and how an integrated and holistic care model can best meet their needs.
