Aldi assistants will receive a pay increase in March

The supermarket chain Aldi will increase the pay of all its store assistants from 1 March to at least 12.71 PS per hour in national and 14.50 PS within the M25.

The increase in pay will be determined by the length of time that employees have worked for Aldi. Aldi will increase the salaries of its salaried employees. The new minimum wage is higher than the living wage established by the Living Wage Foundation last October, which was set at PS12.60 across the UK and PS13.85 in London.

The supermarket doubled the hourly wage for store assistants and warehouse staff, as well as Deputy Store Managers. According to the employees’ service length, the rates increased from PS12 to PS12.40 per hour outside the M25 and from PS13.55 up to PS13.65 inside the M25. Last year, the company invested PS79 million in its pay.

Giles Hurley said, Chief Executive Officer of Aldi UK & Ireland: “Our employees have always been the best and this pay increase reflects our commitment to ensure they remain the highest paid. Each Aldi employee is absolutely crucial to our mission to bring unbeatable Aldi pricing to more UK customers.

Aldi offers its employees paid breaks taken during their work shifts. This is approximately PS1,370 per year for an average store employee. Employee benefits include 28 days of annual leaves, a health-cash plan, discounted memberships to gyms, discounts on cinema tickets, holidays, sick pay and long-service awards. There is also an employee assistance program, an online wellness platform, and opportunities for training and development.
