The Top 10 Counties in the UK for New Business Startups


A new study has revealed that the West Midlands is the best place to start a company in the UK.


In the analysis, each county was ranked based on factors which contribute to the success of new businesses, such as business growth rates and average broadband speeds.


The 10 best counties in which to start a new business:

  1. West Midlands
  2. Hertfordshire
  3. Berkshire
  4. Northamptonshire
  5. Greater Manchester
  6. Surrey
  7. Essex
  8. Hampshire
  9. Bedfordshire
  10. Kent

West Midlands topped the list due to a thriving business community. The central area has seen 13,785 businesses start up in the past year, more than anywhere else. It also has the highest number of “high growth” businesses.

The county is a great place to start a business because of its excellent broadband speeds (average 93.4Mbps), its proximity to London (115 miles), and the convenient transport connections to the rest the UK.

Hertfordshire, a county in England with over 230 businesses that are growing fast, is ranked second in the research conducted by Trooli. It’s one of the fastest-growing areas in the UK.

Berkshire is third in the list of counties that are relatively close to London. Due to the availability of ultrafast internet in the county, the county has higher than average broadband speeds (88.5Mbps). This offers unbeatable connectivity for start-ups and is cheaper than London.
