NHS Northwest Benefits from Attensi training to keep staff on the frontline while boosting their competence.

Attensi is a leader in the field of game-based learning and has been partnering with NHS Trusts throughout the Northwest for three years. They have delivered innovative and effective training to reduce training time, increase competency and keep staff on the frontline. This partnership, in addition to achieving cost and time efficiencies, has also brought innovative and engaging training to major hospitals including Clatterbridge Cancer Centre, and Greater Manchester Mental Health Trust.

Attensi Process allows staff to train on new routines and systems within a virtual replica their workplace. This reduces classroom training time by a significant amount. The results are impressive:

  • Reduced user training from 6 to 2 hours (*Statistics gathered by Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust).

  • 90% of participants improved their IT system understanding (*Statistics gathered from the Clatterbridge Cancer Center).

  • 92% of respondents increased their confidence when using IT systems. (*Statistics gathered from the Clatterbridge Cancer Center).

  • 95% of Trust members participated in the training. (*Statistics gathered from the Clatterbridge Cancer Center).

Jacqui Cooper, Chief Nursing Information Office at Health Innovation Manchester & NHS GM explains that taking key staff from wards over extended periods is not an option.

“Nurses work 12-hour shifts, and their patients always come first. Attensi allows them to focus on patients and complete modules in bite-sized three-minute sessions. We knew we had it right when a nurse finished her module during a night-shift, prompting others to try and beat her score. Attensi is the perfect solution for nurses who cannot or shouldn’t spend eight hours in a class. We could not send those nurses to classroom training for 8 hours. This is something we should not do. “It’s a waste of time.”

Jacqui says, “The Attensi system is different because we can measure the level of competency and pick it up at the board level.” You can see how many employees have been trained, are competent in the training and, more importantly, who is not competent. We’ve never done that before, to be able prove that the knowledge gap has been closed and that compliance is 100%.

Ethan Darry explains that training is essential to keep patients safe. “I train staff in a digital prescription platform so it’s very important they fully understand it.” Staff who do not use EPMA correctly can jeopardize patient care. Attensi helps staff become proficient with EPMA through a safe environment where they can build confidence and perform tasks correctly. Staff cannot be released from the wards for long periods of time because they are so busy. This increased competency directly translates into safer and more effective care for patients”

Amy, Senior Theraputic Radiographer, Clatterbridge Cancer Centre: “We need to be updated regularly on the digital technologies we use in order to work efficiently. The Attensi Training was very exciting and reminded of SIMS which is a game I enjoy playing. The training is highly customized, with my avatar and name. When I wear headphones, I feel fully engaged and like I am in a work environment. Since Attensi, I have used Meditech more efficiently. Appointments are now streamlined to 10-12 minute, which allows me to help and see more cancer patients each day.

Naomi Fraser, Information Management Manager and Data Security Manager at Clatterbridge Cancer Centre, praises the personalisation. “Attensi has helped me to train a number of staff using their preferred learning styles. Attensi, which is aware of the Staff Disability Network (SDN), means that I do not have to go through the same material three times, in visual, auditory, and kinesthetic formats. This saves me a great deal of time. Repetition makes the training more engaging and fresh.

Attensi and NHS Northwest will continue to expand their relationship.
