Five of Britons support a reduction in DEI

More than a fifth of Britons disagree.

Donald Trump’s return to the White House in his first month has seen a number of US companies, including Meta and Amazon, and more recently Citigroup and KPMG, reverse their DEI initiatives.

According to a study by Apella Advisors & Find Out Now, 53% of respondents agreed that it would “bad” for British companies to scale back their commitments.

A fifth of respondents disagreed with the statement that it was bad. Another 11% were undecided, and another 14% didn’t know.

The opposition was strongest among those of working age, especially the younger ones. The critics of DEI argue that the initiatives are at odds with merit in selecting applicants.

Mike Granleese explains to The Times, the head of data and insight at Apella Advisors why most people think ditching DEI is bad.

He said that for some firms, it’s because they would lose out on talent. The public values authenticity.” The public value authenticity .”

Nevertheless, the poll found that 29% of respondents either agreed with or “understood” this move. The survey showed that men and older people were more likely to support Trump’s position.

Granleese said that this view is not universal and significant parts of UK opinion are positive about Trumpism. “But this view is not universal. Significant parts of UK opinion have a positive outlook on Trumpism .”

Staff at Stonewall, a UK-based LGBTQ+ charity, have been described as “shell-shocked”, after it was reported that roles without dedicated funding were at risk. US funding for overseas DEI projects is expected to freeze, which will affect Stonewall’s Eastern Europe projects.
