Sign up to the UK’s very first home heating employee benefits scheme

In what is its most significant development to date, Heat Scheme, the UK’s first-ever home heating employee benefit scheme can announce it has now received the backing of some of the UK’s household names, including from Royal London, the UK’s largest mutual insurer and investment company.

They join other leading companies to sign up for Heat Scheme including, JCDecaux, the world’s number one outdoor advertising company operating in over 80 countries, The British Film Institute and NHS Professionals, the UK’s biggest provider of flexible workforce solutions to help its employees reduce their energy bills and carbon footprint.

Over 250,000 employees are now accessing Heat Scheme and in a growing sign of its reach in the marketplace, global employee benefit platforms are now including Heat Scheme in their rewards packages. Heat Scheme’s partners include the hugely popular Perkbox, used by over 4,500 employers worldwide and Thanks Ben trusted by household names such as Octopus Energy and Itsu.

Kirsten Paterson, reward partner at Royal London said: “We’re proud to partner with Heat Scheme to make this benefit available to our UK colleagues. We know how important it is to take our people with us on our sustainability journey.

“By offering the Heat Scheme benefit, we’re supporting our colleagues to engage directly with our Purpose outcomes of building financial resilience and playing our part in moving fairly to a sustainable world, by enabling them to save money, save energy and reduce emissions at home in a way that is tailored to their individual circumstances.”

Heat Scheme is available to all participating organisations as an employee benefit scheme that gives staff access to one-to-one consultations for heating efficiency and home improvement work.

Employers provide interest-free loans and or grants to help staff with the upfront cost of switching to clean energy at home such as green retrofits and the installation of heat pumps.

By providing an interest-free loan of between £2,000-£5,000 or a combination of a loan and a grant, employers can make the switch to clean energy more affordable up front for staff and increase adoption rates by over 30%.

Patrick Dougherty, director and founder of Heat Scheme said: “One of the reasons large famous employers – such as Royal London have chosen to adopt Heat Scheme is the positive impact we can have on staff wellbeing at home.

“The advantages of working with employers are clear: they provide a platform to drive staff awareness and offer financing to help them cover the upfront cost of switching to clean energy.”

Heat Scheme is currently also running a promotion to staff with free heating for a year if they switch to clean energy.
