New research shows that over half of Brits intend to learn AI themselves.

Bosch Tech Compass: AI will dominate the technology in the next decade

  • More than half (52%) of Brits plan to study AI.

    Prepare for the transformational era.

  • 61% of Brits claim they never received AI training at work.

  • Artificial Intelligence’s (AI) potential has reached a new level, according to 66% of Brits

It will be the most important technology in the UK for the next 10 to 15 years.

Artificial intelligence (AI), will dominate technology in the coming decade. AI skills are becoming increasingly important for both our personal and professional lives. More than 11,000 people were surveyed in the Bosch Tech Compass survey.

52% of UK respondents to Bosch’s Tech Compass 2025 study plan to educate themselves about artificial intelligence. 61% of UK respondents said they had never been trained on AI in the workplace, highlighting an education gap to prepare Brits for this transformational era.

The annual Tech Compass Survey was launched by Bosch at CES 2025, which took place in Las Vegas from 7-10 January.

AI potential reaches new heights

The UK survey found that 69% of respondents believed technological progress made the world a more enlightened place. More Brits are adopting cutting-edge technologies and recognizing the benefits they can bring to the society.

Over half of the UK respondents (51%) said that AI should focus on robotics and 47% expressed hope that AI could make a positive impact in healthcare.

The report from 2024 showed that 62% of Brits believed AI would be the most important technology in the next 10 year. This is up from 38%. The survey shows that reservations are also decreasing globally (from 38% in 2020 to 34% by 2025), indicating that AI is no longer considered a “hype” and is becoming more relevant in society.

Steffen Hoffmann comments, “AI can dramatically change our daily lives.” The society often reacts negatively to new technologies, but the Tech Compass results show that British people are increasingly accepting of AI and its benefits.

Four out of five people in the world plan to learn about AI

Around the world, 82% plan to educate themselves on AI in the near future. 54% of them will do so through self-study. This highlights a gap in AI skill offerings, and in help from businesses and organizations in helping society to prepare for

This era.

In the UK 52% of respondents said that they will educate themselves on AI by self-study. 61% have said that they never received AI training at work. 39% said it is important for potential employers to offer AI training.

Bosch’s AI Academy has trained over 65,000 Associates in AI. All Bosch Associates can access these training courses online.

According to the Tech Compass survey, the UK workforce wants to receive specific AI training. In fact, 50% of Brits believe that critical thinking skills, like learning to recognize ‘deep-fakes’, are the most crucial skill to have in an AI driven world. This is closely followed by the ability to use AI tools effectively (49%).

Steffen Hoffmann said: “At Bosch we view AI as a powerful tool from which everyone can benefit. We use AI at our workplaces, and are always looking for ways to introduce AI into our working methods. Generative AI is designed to simplify and improve processes. It can help associates with their daily work by relieving them from simple, repetitive tasks. AI is used in manufacturing plants to check for defects. We always make sure that the AI technology we use is safe, has a clear purpose and is beneficial to the user.

In order to improve AI education and understanding, 63% of respondents worldwide support AI being taught as a separate subject at school. 48% believe that the educational institutions of their country adequately prepare students with AI skills in preparation for future employment.

Steffen Hoffmann said: “One of Tech Compass’s notable findings is that over half of UK citizens believe AI should be taught as a separate subject in schools. AI is unique from other technological advances because it is universal and has a rapid impact. Parents are becoming more aware of the importance of educating their children about AI. The government must ensure that AI education is incorporated into school curricula, and commit to support all students during the transition to the AI era.
