According to LinkedIn, almost half of HR professionals believe that their company lacks a clear understanding of the skills it needs for 2025.
According to the professional networking platform, 45% of UK Human Resources professionals do not know what they need to do to fill new roles. It also revealed which jobs are most likely to become highly desired in 2025.
According to the annual report ‘Jobs on the Rise,’ AI engineers, AI researches, and environmental officers were among the 20 fastest-growing jobs in the UK.
The report calculates which roles are growing the fastest by looking at millions of jobs created by LinkedIn members from 2022 to 2024, and comparing the growth rates for each job title.
The report also shows that data governance managers, pilots and energy managers are all growing roles.
LinkedIn reports that nearly 55% of the Jobs on the Rise for this year were not available 25 years ago.
Although 20% of workers are concerned that they do not have the necessary skills, the list shows that AI and green skills will be more important in the future.
The report said that the global demand for green talent will grow twice as fast as the number available of candidates in 2023-2024.
LinkedIn’s research showed that 43% of companies had difficulty sourcing technical skills, while 19% were unable to find sustainability skills.
LinkedIn reports that the UK has the highest share of remote job applications (18%) and hybrid job postings (40%).
Janine Chamberlin is the head of LinkedIn UK. She said that new AI and sustainability jobs are redefining the work. But the competition to get these roles, and the need to upskill, are increasing the pressure.
“Yet amidst all these challenges, hope is still present – more than a third are hopeful that the job market in 2025 will improve. To navigate this rapidly changing environment, resilience, adaptability and continuous learning are key.
She added that businesses who want to take advantage of new technologies will need to invest in AI tools and upskilling programs.
