After 30 years in HR, I was told that I am “too aggressive”. I also came across as someone who had an agenda. This is the first time I’ve heard this. I was told to be more assertive and to be tougher.
As a woman, I’ve always had the good fortune to work with teams who valued strong women with opinions. Yes, I have a plan when I attend a meeting. As an HR director, I have a lot of difficult issues to address. This is a lot to take in.
I’m looking for some guidance. If I was a man, this wouldn’t have been said. Maybe I’m wrong? Perhaps I’m taking it too personally. This is not the first time that this person, whom I will call Mark, has complained about a woman being too harsh.
I would appreciate any advice you could give me on how to go forward. This can’t continue to eat me up.
