According to a Skillsoft global survey, more than eight out of ten employees are unprepared for the challenges they will face in 2025.
The learning platform identified issues such as burnout, exhaustion and overworked workers in 2024.
Skillsoft polled 2,100 full-time workers and found that just under half (48%) had been told about their employer’s priorities for the next year. Of those who were informed, only 40 percent said that they felt “extremely certain” of their role in reaching those goals.
In 2024, the top challenges in work will be exhaustion (39%) and decreased motivation or engagement (35%) as well as an overwhelming workload and responsibility (35%).
Skillsoft discovered that on the employer side many companies felt the US election would have “a slight to extreme impact” on their organisation in the upcoming year.
Nearly three-quarters of respondents (73%) agreed. 39% also said that Trump’s election would negatively impact ESG programmes. 35% said it would negatively impact regulatory compliance requirements.
Priorities for employers in 2025 include improving operational efficiency (48%) and increasing revenue and profitability (46%).
The lowest priority was strengthening data privacy practices and security (17%), closing skills gaps (19%), and improving leadership and managerial skills (19%). The fact is that their main challenges are talent attraction, retention and effective management and leadership.
Priorities for business should include improving operational efficiency, revenue and customer satisfaction.
Ciara Harrington is Skillsoft’s Chief People Officer. She said, “It is difficult to achieve these goals if they are not broken down into specific actions and communicated to the entire workforce.
By creating a solid foundation for talent, through training, and a strategy communication plan that is consistent, employees will better be prepared to innovate, adapt and contribute to the long-term success of their organization.
In order to avoid a higher rate of attrition, the company stated that businesses will need to communicate clearly about goals and priorities. Skillsoft found that only 25% of employees are satisfied with their current role.
The report found that companies are increasingly seeking more tailored and role-specific training options to prepare their employees for the challenges they face.
Harrington continued, “Access to new technologies and training fosters continual learning and adaptability. This empowers employees to face future challenges.”
Investment in talent will ensure the competitive advantage of your business and future.
