Towergate launches Menopause+
World Menopause Day is Friday, 18 October 2024
Towergate Employee Benefits’ research shows that 20% of employers expect an increase in demand for support for women, including for menopause. Towergate Employee Benefits encourages employers to provide support for menopause in honor of World Menopause Day, which is Friday, 18 October.
Impact
Estimates suggest that six million people who are employed in the UK experience menopause. Symptoms can affect both mental and physical health. They range from anxiety to sleeping problems.
Debra C. Clark, Towergate Employee Benefits’ head of wellbeing, explains: The people who are affected by menopause often reach the peak of their careers. The menopausal women are a valuable resource to the workplace. They have an abundance of knowledge and experience. It is important that businesses support this demographic.
Education
Education is a good place to start when it comes to menopause. Employees who are made aware of symptoms and issues related to menopause will be better able to understand the situation. Include younger co-workers and those who will not directly experience the menopause to the communication. This can help them be more supportive.
Being pro-active
The options for menopause support are increasing. Specialists are now available to provide support for menopause. This area of employee benefits, which is increasingly common, can be obtained through health insurance companies and directly from advisors.
Debra continues: As a co-chairperson of the Ardonagh Advisory Menopause Colleague Community in our company, my main goal is to provide support to people who are going through menopause, or to anyone with questions or help to better support their colleagues. I can therefore attest to the importance of raising public awareness and providing the appropriate support. I would encourage employers to learn more about the latest advances in menopause and seek advice on what options are best for their organization.
Business-boosting
Supporting women during menopause can increase productivity, reduce absenteeism, and allow businesses to retain key talent and experience. The Equality and Human Rights Commission has also encouraged support for menopause at work. This is an important topic that’s growing in importance.
Tangible Support
Towergate Employee Benefits launched Menopause+ today to help employers support employees. It offers training, coaching and awareness. The goal is to create a supportive and educated workplace for employees as well as the company.
