A study suggests that hybrid workers are less likely to take sick days, have lower stress levels, are better able access health checks and are able report a better work-life-balance.
International Workplace Group, a flexible workspaces provider, surveyed more than 2,000 hybrid employees and found that 34% of them said that they had taken fewer sick leaves because of hybrid working.
Over two-thirds of respondents (68%) also reported fewer stress-related illnesses, and 71% stated that being able work flexible allowed them to benefit from more preventative health treatments, including regular screenings, health checks, and check-ups.
Seventy-nine percent of hybrid workers reported a better overall work-life balance and reduced anxiety. For 80% of hybrid employees, the reduced amount of time spent in daily long commutes is a major factor that helps to reduce stress.
The study found that this had a direct impact on stress-related health conditions, with 68% experiencing less symptoms, such as severe headaches and digestive problems, or tension-related pain.
In response to the findings of this study, Dr Sara Kayat (a GP/TV doctor) said: “It is clear from this research hybrid working models offer employees greater flexibility as well as tangible health benefits.
By reducing the physical strain and mental stress of daily commutes, employees are better able to manage their health conditions, receive preventative care and reduce stress. It not only improves their wellbeing, but it also helps businesses reduce the costs of absenteeism.
