First time, employees can get weight-loss jabs at work

Vitality has announced a new program that will allow employees to access weight loss injections via their workplace health.

Health insurer says its members can access weight loss medication through their insurance. This is a UK first, according to the health insurer.

Vitality announced that members will have access to weight loss medication, including the groundbreaking Wegovy and Mounjaro injections, based on BMI and health conditions related to weight.

Members who are eligible can access the programme after completing their profile on the app.

People with a BMI over 30 or type 2 diabetes or a BMI over 25 will receive lifestyle change support.

Employees with a BMI over 35 will be eligible to participate in the medication-supported weight loss programme. This includes the weight-loss jabs.

Dr Katie Tryon is the chief commercial director of VitalityHealth. She said, “Over the last year, weight-management medication’s potential has become more apparent. While they aren’t a universal solution they can still be an effective tool to improve health.

“We’re proud to offer this service as part of health insurance in the UK. Weight loss is a powerful tool that can change lives. It not only reduces physical health problems, but it also encourages a healthier way of living.

She added, “By combining medication with lifestyle support and individual coaching, we commit to helping our members manage weight in a sustainable long-term way.”
