The terms “work spouse” and “work man” are offensive to me. They suggest a level of intimacy you shouldn’t have at work, unless you work alongside your spouse with whom you are legally married.
I don’t believe it is a harmless prank either. I’m certainly not the only person who feels this way. Blonde Musings asked this question at X.
Why not use “work brother” or ‘work sister” instead?

It may look harmless and funny, but this is not the case. The card to the right’s text says “For my husband at work on Valentine’s Day.” I’ve found someone who is just as inappropriate as myself.
It’s not funny but it isn’t harmless.
